0% duty from 1 July 2026
Under EU Regulation 2026/1455, from 1 Jul 2026 to 31 Dec 2029 cars of US origin enter the EU duty-free. What matters is where the car was built, not where it was bought: a BMW X5 from Spartanburg, a Mercedes GLE from Alabama or a US-built Tesla qualify; a Jeep Compass from Mexico or Chrysler Pacifica from Canada don't.
What you need for the zero rate
You must prove US origin and direct shipment from the USA to the EU. The VIN hints at the assembly country but is not proof on its own — exporter and shipping documents are needed. We check before you buy so you don't overpay 10%.
Copart and IAAI auctions
Auction cars clear on the same rules. Damaged cars are cheaper, but budget for repairs before the inspection.
Excise and VAT
Excise is charged on the customs value plus duty: 3.1% or 18.6% for petrol and diesel, less for hybrids, 0% for electric. 23% VAT when cleared in Poland.
Registration
After customs — inspection, OC, sworn translation of the title and invoice, the registration office and plates.
