In short
EU Regulation 2026/1455 cut duty on US-origin cars from 10% to 0% for 1 Jul 2026–31 Dec 2029. You must prove origin and direct shipment. Cars built in Canada, Mexico or elsewhere still pay 10%.
What changed
Following the EU–US joint statement of 21 August 2025, the EU adopted Regulation 2026/1455: duty on US-origin cars is 0% from 1 July 2026 to the end of 2029.
Which cars qualify
- Built in US plants: e.g. BMW X5/X7 (Spartanburg), Mercedes GLE/GLS (Alabama), Tesla, many Ford and Chevrolet models
- Not eligible: built in Canada (Chrysler Pacifica), Mexico (Jeep Compass) or elsewhere — even if bought in the USA
What documents you need
Proof of origin and direct shipment from the USA to the EU: exporter documents and bill of lading. The VIN hints at the assembly country (1, 4, 5 = USA) but isn't proof on its own.
What it saves
On a 40,000 zł car with 6,000 zł shipping, the duty saving is 4,600 zł — plus lower excise and VAT, which are charged on the amount including duty.
